I have a Yanmar 1401D about 1980 mod, been very good tractor until one day I raised the 3ph which worked ok, but this time it just refuses to lower, still goes up(higher & higher), just not down, not even standing on lift arms.
HELP!!
I read the post where others have had 3ph problems & I would like to get as much info as I can B4 tearing into the hydro control giz-mo. I don't know what all of the knobs, leavers, dip stick, and the little screw thing is that has a T type handle under the seat, are. I dont have a manual and some of the post talked about 'clearences'. I thought maybe something got stuck so I tapped around on things under the seat with a hammer, not real hard, but still no luck.
I hope I didn't mess something up when I had a bright ideal about using the 3ph to move a goat shed (idea didnt work, but if I ever need to remove the front tires, that does real good.) But the 3ph worked good after that, so I dont think that was it.
I also replaced the seat with one of those fishing boat swivel seats(a whole lot more comfortable) except when I turn arround to look back, the seat catches the lift control handle and lowers my 3ph, but dont really think that is the cause of my problem.
So, can somebody Please Help. Give me some ideas to try, or as a last resort, percautions about actually taking the control giz-mo apart?

There should be some sort of knob under the seat that acts like a faucet to control the rate of drop on the 3ph.
If you are looking from front to back it would probably open counter-clockwise.
You need this control to adjust for different weights of implements. It may have gotten closed when you installed the new seat. ....

Sounds like an obstruction in the return flow line, either the flow control valve is stuck or blocked, or you have a blockage somewhere in the return line. Make sure the flow control valve is opening, and the knob or control isn't spinning independently of the stem. The blockage is most like somewhere around the control valve. ....

I had the same problem. On the side of the transmission, there is a metal line that goes to the three point hitch.
You will see three bolts holdint the line to the transmission. Take out the three bolts and inside is a mesh metal screen. Mine was completely blocked. Wash the screen with diesel fuel or other type of cleaner. It worked great after that. One thing to note is when you repove the pipe you will drain all the fluid out of the transmission and three point hitch. I drained abour three gallons into a five gallon bucket ....

The little "T" handle that is located below the seat on the right side as your sitting on the tractor, determines rate of drop on the 1401D. Turn this and see if this solves your problem. ....

Make sure all the linkage is connected on the 3 point. If that is OK it could be a broken rockshaft to piston rod pin. ....
